Orquidea Island - Full day

Duration: 6 hour(s) - Location: Canaima

While orchids do thrive in Camaina National Park, the island is no longer particularly abundant in them. Navigating down the Carrao River on the way to the island, there is an excellent view of the Kurún, Venado y Kuravaina tepuyes. The rapids on the Maypa River tend to be very turbulent, making it necessary to disembark and walk around them, returning to the vessels further upriver. The Auyán tepuy or massif appears, from a distance, to lie very close to the island.

Itinerary
on this page

  • Early in the morning, you will be driven in a rustic vehicle to a dock in Puerto Ucaima, where you will board a canoe. It takes 15 minutes to reach the Mayupa Rapids. While you are sailing on the Carrao River to the Mayupa Rapids, you will enjoy the view of the Kurún, Venado and Kuravaina tepuyes in the background
  • Then, to avoid the turbulence of the rapids, you will walk through the savannah for 30 minutes
  • Next, you will take again the canoe and continue your trip on the river through the Arautaima Rapids. Gradually, the Auyantepuy will surprise you with its majestic size
  • After, you will continue up the river for about 45 minutes to the Pozo de la Felicidad, where you will stop to enjoy the waterfall and a delightful swim in its crystal fresh waters
  • After, you will continue navigating the river for 45 minutes until you reach Isla Orquídea, located on the Ahonda area
  • Then, you will have the opportunity to walk around the island, swim in the river and rest a while before enjoying a delicious grilled chicken prepared by the pemons
  • After relaxing a little longer, you will return to the camp
